About us

TheaterLaboratorium Gelnhausen was founded on May, 28th 2013 by Julian Viel, Alexander Spaeth, Melanie Uhlmann and Lars Alfers. Swantje Schmidt, Tobias Amberg and Jeanette Langner soon joined the group, too.

We meet every week for rehearsals at the Youth- and Arts Center Gelnhausen (so called JuKuZ) which offers the advantage of an existing stage with lightning and sound engineering.

After our first review we decided not to re-enact a ready-made play. Instead we wanted to create something more special: For our first performance named "Subject: Human" round about half a year later, we chose not to elect a director as everyone should be allowed to equally come up with ideas, reviews, suggestions and be able to write own plays. We are still holding on to this principle.

Several themes were compiled, analyzed and finally we wrote five short plays at home, starting staging afterwards:
„Mnemosyne“ by Lars Alfers
„Amor plays Roulette“ by Melanie Uhlmann
„Under Pressure“ by Swantje Schmidt
„Revolution at Night“ by Alexander Spaeth
“Between the Worlds“ by Julian Viel.
Felix Kaiser and Benjamin Prinz were in charge of illuminating and acoustic engineering.
On December, 7th and 8th 2013 we successfully performed "Subject: Human"
twice in front of approx. 100 viewers (total of attendances).

Due to job- and study-related reasons Swantje Schmidt, Felix Kaiser, Tobias Amberg and Benjamin Prinz left us after these performances.

Henceforth we gained Patric Boulahrout, Johannes Tasch, Sabrina Schaefer, Julia Reis as well as Alexander Schindler and Lea Bergkemper.
Due to job-related reasons, Jeanette Langner is currently supporting the group in the background.

From February 2014 we were working on „Project: Frenzy“.
The Association of Arts "Pupille e.V. Hanau" (http://www.pupille-art.de/) was exposing self-made pictures starting from May, 18th for two weeks at the foyer of Hanau´s cityhall "Neustädter Rathaus".
On June, 1st 2014 we performed self-written and -stage-managed sequences dealing with different kinds of positive and negative frenzies:
"Buying Spree" written by Julia Reis,

"Love Frenzy" by Melanie Uhlmann and Alexander Spaeth,

"Color Frenzy" by Alexander Spaeth,
"Intoxication Bar" by Patric Boulahrout and Alexander Spaeth.

This time Lars Alfers and Johannes Tasch were in charge of all engineering affairs.
